Gay Iceland & Reykjavik Pride Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Reykjavík, Iceland
Halló! Today you’ll meet your fellow travellers along with your Icelandic guide at 5PM for our Group Meeting.

We’ll then head for an included dinner at one of Iceland’s best restaurants, followed by drinks and a potential spot of dancing.

Hotel: Alda Reykjavik Hotel, Reykjavik

Day 2 - Golden Circle & Black Beach ATV
Today we’ll hope on ATVs and cruise along the black sand beach on the south coast. This thrilling adventure will allow you to enjoy the stunning nature of Iceland in a unique way. No experience is required, but you will require your drivers license.

Later today we’ll continue on the Golden Circle to see the infamous Geysir and his little brother Strokkur before visiting Gullfoss, one of the most majestic waterfalls in Iceland.

Hotel: 360 Hotel & Thermal Baths, Selfoss

Day 3 - Þjórsárdalur Valley
Rise and shine! We’re off to Þjórsárdalur, or the Valley of Þjórsá River. This area was once quite densely populated, but after a volcanic eruption in 1104 most of the settlements were wiped out in the area. Foundations of one of the houses, Stöng, were discovered, rebuilt and opened as a museum in 1974.

This lush and green valley is full of rivers with countless waterfalls including Hjálparfoss, where twin falls cascade over a lava field.

Hotel: 360 Hotel & Thermal Baths, Selfoss

Iceland gay tour - Myrdalsjokull Glacier

Day 4 - Myrdalsjökull Glacier Trek & Super Jeep Tour
After a leisurely breakfast we’ll trek and ride souped-up “Super Jeeps” across Iceland’s 4th-largest glacier.

We’ll hit the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier for an ice-walking lesson, then partake in this Icelandic pastime. Please be aware ice-walking is tricky for the best of us—good mobility is required on this activity. Best of all, this tour takes us off the beaten track, away from the standard sites, giving you the full glacier experience.

Hotel: 360 Hotel & Thermal Baths, Selfoss

Iceland gay tour - Blue Lagoon

Day 5 - Blue Lagoon / Reykjavík
Today we’ll hit the Blue Lagoon for a dip, and give this geothermal pool some extra sizzle with other gay and lesbian travellers who are also in town for Pride.

Grab a drink and chat up your fellow dippers before we head for our hotel in Reykjavík, and base for the next few nights.

This evening features an optional dinner, and perhaps some Pride festivities.

Hotel: Alda Reykjavik Hotel, Reykjavik

Day 6 - West Iceland Goats, Spa & Cave Exploration
On today’s west Iceland tour we’ll visit the goat farmer Jóhanna which is lauded for almost single-handedly saving the Icelandic goat species from extinction.

We’ll explore Surtshellir, or the cave of Surtr, named after the formidable foe from the End of world event Ragnarök in Nordic Mythology.

You’ll be driving past the dwelling of Snorri Sturluson, the scholar, poet and writer we have to thank for almost all we know about Nordic mythology and it’s not unlikely he used the eruptions that formed the many volcanic caves in the area as inspiration for his writings.

We’ll take you to Hraunfossar & Barnafossar waterfalls which have a tragic story behind them before soaking in the Krauma Spa.

Hotel: Alda Reykjavik Hotel, Reykjavik

Reykjavik Gay Pride

Day 7 - Reykjavík Gay Pride
After yesterday’s busy itinerary you can take this morning to relax until noon.

Then together we’ll our guide and witness Reykjavík’s official Gay Pride Parade and a short outdoor concert.

After we will enjoy a farewell dinner at a Reykjavik Restaurant and it all ends tonight at the official Pride Dance, the festival’s flagship event. Be sure to end it with a bang!

Hotel: Alda Reykjavik Hotel, Reykjavik

Reykjavík Pride brunch

Day 8 - Reykjavík / Departure

Trip Notes

Iceland Visa
A visa is not typically required for American, Australian, British and Canadian citizens travelling to Iceland for fewer than 90 days. There may be exceptions, and all visas are the responsibility of the traveller.

Culture Shock
Tourism in Iceland is well-developed enough to afford many of the luxuries of home. Nearly everyone speaks English, and locals are very outgoing and friendly.

Local LGBT Scene
While the scene is small, and centred around Reykjavík, being gay or lesbian in Iceland is a complete non-issue (they’ve already had a lesbian prime minister).

Weather
Summer in Iceland is pleasant but chilly. Daytime highs average in the low 60's F (15C), with evening temperatures as low as 50F (10C). Rain is always a possibility, so bring along an umbrella for the city, a waterproof outer layer, and a few thin layers to keep you warm.

Required Vaccinations
Based on the entry requirements for Iceland, there are no vaccinations needed for entry. To determine if you should take preventative measures to reduce the risk of illness, you should consult your doctor or a travel medical clinic, as we cannot provide vaccination

Electricity
You will need an international travel plug/adapter for type F sockets.

Connectivity
All of our hotels will have Wi-Fi access, so feel free to tweet, pin, post and share your experience with your friends and family at home. They might be a tad jealous!

Travel Insurance
For everybody’s peace of mind, medical travel insurance is required on all Out Adventures tours. At a minimum, your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses, emergency repatriation and personal liability, with a minimum medical coverage of US $200,000.

A Special Note On Arrival Transfers
All Iceland departures include arrival/departure transfers via a local shared shuttle bus, known as the FlyBus. Three weeks before departure you will be given a ticket to board the FlyBus. You will also receive detailed instructions on where to catch the bus, how to board and where to get off. If you’d prefer a private transfer, please contact our sales team for pricing.

Meals
To keep things flexible, not all meals are included in the trip price. While we typically dine together so everybody can get a taste of everything, feel free to explore on your own…your guide will always have restaurant recommendations. Please note that food in Iceland is costly, so you could easily spend $100 USD for a typical meal featuring an appetizer, entree, dessert, and drink.

Money
The local currency is the Icelandic Krona. We recommend carrying local currency for small purchases, but credit cards are accepted at most upscale restaurants, and at hotels. We also recommend carrying about $400 USD to be used in case of an emergency, or if your credit/ATM cards are placed on hold.

Tipping
If you are happy with services throughout your trip, a tip is recommended. Tipping details will be provided in your final trip documentation, however we recommend budgeting approximately $80 USD.

What to bring
Our adventures entail carrying your own luggage on occasion. And while you’ll never schlep far, things can quickly get costlier than a celebrity breakup if you don’t keep your baggage under 20kg/44lb thanks to costly surcharges on domestic flights. You should also bring something smaller for day trips to carry water, your camera, and any souvenirs you find along the way.

Optional Activities
Every Out Adventure offers optional excursions that are not included in price of this trip. Please see the daily itinerary in your final pre-trip packet to learn what’s available.

How We Travel
Out Adventures is all about good times with likeminded guys. Whatever’s on the itinerary – from fireside camping to five-star decadence – our goal is to make the experience magical. We’re also committed to supporting the communities we visit by hiring local guides, staying at locally-owned accommodations when possible, and celebrating local cuisine. It all adds up to a great way to immerse yourself in the culture.

Your Guide
All Out Adventures are led by a gay (or gay-welcoming) guide. Whenever possible, we hire destination locals. And we can also connect you with the right people if you’d like to delve deeper into the local culture. If you’re pleased with your guide, we recommend a tip of US $5-10 per person, per day…they’ll certainly appreciate it!

Flying Solo
If you’ve never travelled on your own, it’s an amazing way to get to know yourself while making new friends along the way. We can arrange for you to share a room with people in your age range at no charge, or you can pay a supplement for your own room. If there’s an odd number of solos, we’ll rotate a single room on a random basis.
