12 nights from Valparaiso, Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina
March 14 26, 2024
Celebrity's Eclipse
Stroll around Valparaiso’s colorful Historic Quarter before embarking on an unforgettable cruise to Patagonia. Sail down the striking Chilean fjords and across the famous Strait of Magellan, where you’ll witness breathtaking natural beauty and wildlife at every turn. Admire Patagonia’s mountains, glaciers, and lakes in Punta Arenas and Ushuaia. Feel like you’ve reached the end of the world in Cape Horn, the southernmost point of the Americas. Go whale watching in Puerto Madryn and wrap up your vacation in Montevideo, where golden beaches and a vibrant arts scene await. Your cruise ends in vibrant gay friendly Buenos Aires!
Chile & Argentina cruise offer travelers the opportunity to experience some of the most remote areas in the region, including Punta Arenas, in the far south of mountainous Patagonia.
Embark on a luxury cruise to Patagonia to uncover the untamed beauty and unique culture of this remote South American region. From Ushuaia to the rugged landscapes of Tierra del Fuego, you'll be mesmerized by the pristine scenery at the very tip of the continent. Visit penguin colonies, take a scenic hike through dense forests, or go whale watching while on this unforgettable South America cruise.
Patagonia cruises will bring you to awe-inspiring destinations like Ushuaia, gateway to mountain scenery and wooded islands. Join a whale-watching safari in Puerto Madryn, and explore the Chilean fjords of Tierra del Fuego. Visit a penguin colony from Punta Arenas, and in Punta Montt, take in the breathtaking scenery of glaciers, mountains, and waterfalls.
Naturalist Charles Darwin spent four years in and around Patagonia in the 19th century, an experience that helped shape his theories on evolution. See Patagonia in his eyes through the abundant wildlife. The nutrient-rich waters of the south Atlantic attract humpback and southern right whales to the region. You could also spot seals basking on the rocks. From Punta Arenas, take a trip to Magdalena Island to watch thousands of enchanting Magellanic penguins going about their business.
No trip to Patagonia is complete without marveling at mighty glaciers. The islands and fjords of Chilean Patagonia are dotted with vast rivers of ice, including the Grey Glacier, which can be seen from your ship or up close on an excursion. With its creaking, blue-white face, the Serrano Glacier is another great option for viewing, especially when chunks of ice calve off into the water where the glacier meets the sea.

Day 1 - Valparaiso, Chile
The picturesque neighborhoods of Valparaíso extend up into the 45 steep hills overlooking this busy Chilean port and the Pacific Ocean beyond. Brilliant murals and wonderful street art in bright, bold color dominates this seaside town. There’s so much to discover on a Valparaiso cruise. To explore the churches and architectural landmarks that make this a World Heritage site, ride the vibrant ascencores, a series of elevators that are over 100 years old. Many of the ascensores have ceased operation, however the few that are still running also offer wonderful birds eye views. Walk along the Caleto Portales Beach and take in the views of the ocean, the people, and the occasional sightings of sea lions sunbathing. Then, make your way to one of the many restaurants along the shore for delicious specialty dishes like empanadas, ceviche, the famous conger chowder and the freshest seafood.
Day 4 - Chilean Fjords (Cruising)
These are some of the most magnificent fjords in the world. As your eyes work their way up the jagged walls of mammoth glaciers, you may be rewarded with an Andean condor sighting. On the ocean's surface, the Magellan penguins always put on a good show.
Day 5 - Strait of Magellan (Cruising)
This 350-mile journey is a bucket-list experience for most cruisers. Named for the 16th century Portuguese explorer and navigator, Ferdinand Magellan, the Strait of Magellan connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in the far Southern Patagonia region of Chile. On a Strait of Magellan cruise, you'll encounter the raw beauty of Tierra del Fuego plains in the distance, the imposing Amalia glacier, stunning Seno Eyre fjord, humpback whales, colonies of Magellanic penguins, and much more. You are certain to leave with amazing memories, and pictures, of the breathtaking scenic highlights as you make your way through this corner of the world.
Day 6 - Punta Arenas, Chile
South America isn't all tropical rainforests. Around Punta Arenas you'll find soaring mountains, beautiful national parks, vast ice fields and towering glaciers. The city itself has been a hub of commerce and trade for generations, thanks to its access to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Trek through Magallanes National Reserve or visit the penguin colony at Seno Otway.
Day 7 - Ushuaia, Argentina
No city on the planet has a more southerly latitude. As a result, the sun shines for 18 hours during each summer day, providing ample opportunity to view the mix of glaciers, forests and sea, all framed by Mount Martial to the west and Mounts Olivia and Cinco Hermanos to the east. There’s a magnificent wealth of history and culture to discover on an Ushuaia cruise. The town was formerly a missionary base, penal colony, and naval base, but has increasingly become a major tourist destination with many attractions, including restaurants, sight-seeing, and casinos. Explore Tierra del Fuego National Park on a day hike through the wilderness, or hike along the coast and glacial lakes.
Day 8 - Cape Horn, Chile (Cruising)
Tierra del Fuego, Land of Fire, is the most isolated place in the Americas, and Cape Horn is its southernmost point. Named after the Dutch town of Hoorn in 1616, its craggy cliffs and windswept shores are stark, with a rugged beauty that creates a dramatic setting for the collision between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. And, depending on the time of year, you’ll either encounter “hold on to your hat” waves, or gentle currents on a Cape Horn cruise.
Day 10 - Puerto Madryn, Argentina
This deep water port was founded in 1865 by Welsh immigrants. Extending out into the Atlantic from Puerto Madryn is the Península Valdes, a wildlife sanctuary where vast numbers of sea elephants, whales and penguins far outnumber the few human visitors who make it out this far.
Day 12 - Montevideo, Uruguay
Montevideo is a thoroughly modern city with a rich artistic tradition, the reach of the rural estancias is all around you. If ever there were a time you were inclined to indulge, delicious steaks are the specialty of the house in virtually every restaurant.
Day 13 - Buenos Aires, Argentina
Gay Buenos Aires, the gloriously flamboyant and self-confident capital of Argentina, is increasingly being recognized as the Gay Capital of Latin America. History, culture, food, passion, and beautiful people. What more could you want? Gay men here – much like the city itself – are sexy and sophisticated, but are most certainly not the only reason to visit. Sensually satisfying, the intoxicating mix of faded European majesty with that zesty Latino passion is what makes Buenos Aires such an irresistible destination.
