Follow in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia on this short Jordanian journey.
After our tour of Egypt concludes, we welcome you to join this short Jordan extension. Our 5-day adventure begins in the Dead Sea to float in its salt-dense waters and enjoy an exfoliating mud bath. We’ll appreciate the region’s deserts and dunes during a Jeep safari. And perhaps most importantly, we’ll hike through rose-y, sandstone cliffs en route to UNESCO-listed Petra and its world-famous, stone-carved facade. Throw in a few fragrant dinners, some Indiana Jones references, a splash of ancient history, a luxe desert campsite and it all adds up to a sun-soaked Middle Eastern escape.

Day 1 Hello and welcome to Jordan, perhaps the most cinematically captured country in the Middle East. As an extension to our Egypt tour, our day will begin with a short flight from Cairo to Amman. Upon arrival we’ll enjoy a private transfer to our perfectly situated hotel sitting right on the beaches of the Dead Sea — so named for its salt-dense water. Feel free to enjoy the day here floating in the salty water before enjoying the fresh-water pool. We also recommend an exfoliating mud bath which is said to have numerous healing properties. Later in the evening we’ll regroup for an included dinner for our first taste of Jordanian cuisine.
Please note: Today’s flight is not included in the cost of our 2025 departures. Please see Important Information for a special note on purchasing airfare.

Day 2 Good morning, Gentlemen! This morning after breakfast you have one last chance for a quick dip in the Dead Sea. Next buckle up for a five to six hour drive to our ultra-luxe desert campsite in Wadi Rum. We’ll have a packed lunch to take with us on our journey. After settling in at our camp, we’ll enjoy dinner together in the dining tent. For those looking to make their desert experience extra-special, ask our sales team about upgrading to a Panoramic Dome tent (limited supply, depending on availability).

Day 3 We’ll rise with the sun today for a local breakfast before boarding an open-air Jeep safari. On the tour we’ll follow in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia, climbing sand dunes and rock bridges, visiting valleys, canyons, dunes and deserts. We’ll discover rock inscriptions, take in arid panoramas, majestic mountains and narrow gorges. In the afternoon we’ll drive to the main entrance of Petra where we’ll get our first real glimpse of the ancient site. Tonight you have the option of dining with a local family that was born in Petra but had to relocate when the site became UNESCO-listed. In fact, the patriarch was born inside the cave!

Day 4 Today we’ll dip in and out of the many caves, tombs, monuments and ancient sacrificial sites that make up the Rose City. We’ll definitely begin our tour via the Siq, exploring the ancient rock carved ruins of Facades Street before climbing the Nabataean steps and summitting Al Khubtha.
In the afternoon there will be the option to explore this sprawling site independently, perhaps taking in an optional 10km/6mi hike to Ad Deir, simply known as “The Monastery”, or you could tackle the High Place of Sacrifice where you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking vantage. Finally, we’ll end our day and the trip with a farewell dinner at our hotel.

Please note: We’ll be coordinating a group drop-off at the airport mid-afternoon. With that in mind, we ask that you schedule your departing flight to leave no earlier than 5 PM.

Jordan Visa Most American, Canadian and British passport holders should register for a 30-day visa before arriving in Jordan. However, a visa can be purchased upon arrival for 40 DOJ. Click here for more information or to purchase your visa. Travelers are responsible for their own visas and making sure they meet entry requirements into the country.
Culture Shock As a moderate Islamic nation, your views and opinions may be challenged by Jordan. Also, customs such as the five-times-a-day call to prayer may be new to you—we ask you to keep an open mind and embrace these cultural norms. You should also expect heavy traffic, along with unanticipated inconveniences such as road closures from time-to-time. Please note our transportation may be altered, and/or our itinerary changed, due to such circumstances beyond our control.
Local LGBT Scene Jordan is a largely conservative country. Caution should be practiced at all times and all public displays of affection should be avoided for the safety of yourself and your group.
Weather December is generally a good month to visit. During this time, the heat tends to be bearable and the desert flora should still be out.
Required Vaccinations Based on entry requirements, only travellers coming from a country with risk of Yellow Fever may be required to show proof of a vaccination. To determine if you should take preventative measures to reduce the risk of illness, you should consult your doctor or a travel medical clinic, as we cannot provide vaccination recommendations.
Electricity In Jordan the power plugs and sockets are of type C, D, F, G and J. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
Connectivity We should have reliable Wi-Fi at our hotels, however the connection will likely be weak (if not none existent) in rural regions such as Wadi Rum. Feel free to tweet, pin, post and share your experience with your friends and family at home.
Travel Insurance
For everybody’s peace of mind, medical travel insurance is required on all Out Adventures tours. At a minimum, your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses, emergency repatriation and personal liability, with a minimum medical coverage of US $200,000.
Domestic Flights
On this tour airfare is not included. We will provide the recommended flight details in the official Trip Guarantee email. If you are booking your trip less than 90 days to departure, there is a chance you will have to purchase a different flight than the rest of the group.
Meals
On this adventure breakfast daily, two lunches and three dinners are included in the cost of the tour.
Money
The local currency is the Jordanian dinar. We recommend carrying local currency for small purchases, however credit cards are accepted at hotels and most restaurants. We also recommend carrying approximately $400 USD, only to be used in the case of an emergency, or if your credit/ATM cards are placed on hold.
Tipping
Most gratuities are included on this tour except for your Local Guide. If you’re pleased with your guide, we recommend a tip of approximately US $35 per person.
What to bring
Most Out Adventures entail carrying your own luggage on occasion. And while you’ll never schlep far, things can quickly get costlier than a celebrity breakup if you don’t keep your baggage under 20kg/44lb thanks to costly surcharges on domestic flights. You should also bring something smaller for day trips to carry water, your camera, and any souvenirs you find along the way.
