Gay Egypt TourNo country in the world has so many impressive antiquities as does Egypt. Few civilizations can compete with Egypt’s magnificent structures, its legendary history, or its long centuries of peace. For tens of thousands of years, the River Nile has been the focal point of life, and ancient Egyptians believed the river’s waters came from a “mysterious heaven of plenty.” The availability of this unlimited supply of water allowed the creation of a society which produced the wonders of ancient Egypt.

The ancient Greeks saw Egypt as a source of all wisdom. Roman emperors traveled here to marvel at the pyramids. As a result, Egypt is probably one of the world’s oldest vacation spots. During our exciting 30th anniversary year-long celebration, we invite you on a cultural gay group odyssey to Egypt to cruise on the Nile and step back into history. In addition to the main tour, we offer a post-tour extension to see the wonders of Jordan, including the Dead Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum.

Egypt gay tour - Sphinx

Day 2 - Wednesday, March 15, 2023
Grand Egyptian Museum / Sakkara / Pyramids / Sphinx
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) complex is brand new! It is described as the largest archeological museum in the world displaying the heritage of a single civilization, exhibiting the full Tutankhamun collection with many pieces displayed for the first time. The Museum contains over 100,000 artifacts, reflecting Egypt's past from prehistory until the Greek and Roman Periods. As you enter the museum, you can't miss the colossal statue of King Ramses II, nor the 87 huge royal artefacts exhibited at the grand stairs. These stairs lead up to an impressive 28-meter-high glass façade overlooking the pyramids of Giza.

Sakkara is the former necropolis (cemetery) for the ancient Egyptian city of Memphis and the place where the very first pyramids were built as tombs for kings. Instead of the smooth sides featured on other pyramids, the pyramids here feature six steps on the outside, representing the pharaoh's stepladder to heaven. Discover the famous Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the first pyramid ever built and the world's oldest freestanding stone structure.

The Great Pyramids of Giza are the only present-day survivors of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built over 4,500 years ago as giant tombs for the mummies of the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, who were father, son and grandson respectively. The pyramids are truly monumental in scale, with the largest - Khufu's - constructed from over two million blocks.

Nearby sits the enigmatic Sphinx with the body of a lion and the face of a man wearing a royal head cloth. Workers may have based the image on King Khafre, positioned to guard his enormous funerary monument. Returning to our hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure, with dinner under your own arrangements.

Cairo gay tour

Day 3 - Thursday, March 16, 2023
Cairo Sightseeing
Begin your tour at the citadel, a medieval fortress built in 1176 to protect the city from crusaders. Today, the citadel complex houses various mosques and museums, including the National Military Museum. With its grand, soaring architecture and rich decoration, the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, completed in 1363, is one of the finest in Egypt and also houses the mausoleum where Sultan Hassan's sons are buried. See also the much newer Refaie Mosque, completed in 1912, with well-preserved, colorful decorations. Notables buried in tombs at this mosque include a Muslim saint who was a companion of the Prophet Mohamed, Egypt's last royal family, and also the last Shah of Iran.

Next, we visit the fascinating Khan El-Khalili Bazaar, reputed to be the largest bazaar in the Middle East. Originally founded as a watering stop for caravanserai in the 14th century, the bazaar has now grown to vast proportions. Wander through the labyrinth of narrow streets to find workshops and stalls selling all manner of goods, from woodwork and glassware to leather products and perfumes. Enjoy lunch at the renowned Naguib Mahfouz Restaurant in the heart of the Bazaar.

Finally, we visit the newly-inaugurated National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. The NMEC showcases Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the present day, using a multidisciplinary approach that highlights the country's complete heritage. The collections are displayed in six thematic galleries covering: The Dawn of Civilization; The Nile; Writing, State and Society; Material Culture; Beliefs and Thinking; and the Gallery of Royal Mummies. We return to the hotel for one more free evening in Cairo.

Egypt gay cruise - Luxor Temple

Day 4 - Friday, March 17, 2023
Luxor Temple / Valley of the Kings & Queens / Welcome Aboard
After breakfast, we depart our hotel and drive to the Cairo International Airport for our flight to Luxor. There a local tour coordinator will meet and accompany us to our 5-Star Deluxe Nile cruise boat. En route we visit the Luxor Temple. Arriving at our boat, we are greeted by the reception staff who help us check into our cabins. Lunch will be served on board in the main restaurant.

After lunch, our dedicated Egyptologist guide accompanies us on a tour of Luxor’s West Bank, beginning with an “insider access” visit to King Tut’s Tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Continue to the Valley of the Queens where we enjoy “insider access” to Nefertari’s Tomb. Marvel at the dramatic Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, carved into the side of a mountain. Returning to the Nile, we make a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon. Arriving at our cruise boat, enjoy afternoon tea in the lounge. Tonight, we are greeted by the Boat Manager while we partake of freshly prepared canapés with some complimentary Egyptian wine and local beer, followed by a gourmet dinner menu.

Egypt gay cruise - Karnak Temple

Day 5 - Saturday, March 18, 2023
East Bank / Karnak Temple / Esna / Edfu
After a delicious breakfast buffet on board, visit the East Bank of Luxor to explore the Temple of Karnak. Returning to our boat, we begin our morning cruise to Esna. Lunch is served on board.

After lunch, our Egyptologist guides us through the Greco-Roman Temple of Khnum at Esna. The beautifully preserved Great Hypostyle Hall was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Claudius. It was excavated from the silt that had accumulated through centuries of annual Nile floods and is about nine meters below present-day street level.

Afternoon tea will be served on board during the cruise to Edfu. Tonight, a delicious dinner is served followed by a movie night on board.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6 - Sunday, March 19, 2023
Temple of Horus at Edfu / Temple of Kom Ombo / Sail to Aswan
Breakfast is served on board, followed by a guided visit to the extraordinary Temple of Horus at Edfu. Lunch is served on board while cruising to Kom Ombo. During the cruise you will have the chance to take part in an Egyptian cooking lesson.

Following afternoon tea in the lounge, visit the temple of Kom Ombo - dedicated to the crocodile-god Sobek. The temple stands at a bend in the Nile where, in ancient times, sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the riverbank.

Return to your Nile Cruise boat ready for the sailing to Aswan. Tonight’s entertainment will be an “Egyptian Night” costume party for all guests, with a chance to dress up in traditional Egyptian “galabeyyas”. Dinner will be a lavish buffet of Egyptian specialties.

Day 7 - Monday, March 20, 2023
Aswan / Philae Temple / Granite Quarries / Felucca Sail
Enjoy breakfast on board, followed by a short motorboat ride to visit the majestic Philae Temple on the Island of Agilika. Next, we proceed to the Granite Quarries which supplied the ancient Egyptians with most of the hard stone used in building pyramids and temples. It still holds a huge unfinished obelisk.

Following lunch on board, you will have a chance go sailing on a felucca (a typical Egyptian sailboat) around Elephantine Island, Lord Kitchener’s Botanical Gardens, and the Agha Khan Mausoleum (weather permitting, life jackets will be provided).

Afternoon tea will be served in the lounge while you enjoy the sounds of an Oud trio. Tonight’s festivities feature a gala farewell dinner, with white-gloved waiters serving gourmet cuisine. Afterwards, enjoy a whirling Dervish and belly dance performance.

Abu Simbel, Egypt gay tour

Day 8 - Tuesday, March 21, 2023
Abu Simbel / Return to Cairo
A buffet breakfast is served on board before checking out at 8 am. Transfer by air-conditioned vehicle to the Aswan Airport to board a 40-minute flight to Abu Simbel.

At Abu Simbel the two temples of Ramses II are each fronted by colossal statues up to 66 feet high and are famed as some the most impressive monuments remaining of Ancient Egypt. As the Aswan Dam was being finished, the temples would have been covered by the rising waters of Lake Nasser. With the urgent help of a UNESCO campaign they were cut into blocks, raised piece by piece and reassembled in a new position higher up the hillside.

After this memorable visit we board our return flight to Cairo via Aswan. Checking in to our hotel near the Cairo Airport, we gather one last time for a final dinner at the hotel before preparing for our journey home.

Dead Sea gay tour

Day 9 - Wednesday, March 22, 2023
Fly to Amman, Jordan / Dead Sea
After breakfast at our Cairo hotel, we check out and drive to the airport for our morning flight to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan. A representative will meet our group, gather luggage to be put in one vehicle and taken ahead to our hotel, while we board another vehicle to the Fakhr El Din Restaurant for our lunch. This afternoon we drive to our hotel at the Dead Sea. It is believed to be the site of five biblical cities: Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Zoar (Bela).

At 1,200 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea has drawn people to its shores in search of curative secrets. Due to high daily temperatures, low humidity and high atmospheric pressure, the air is extremely rich, and the high content of oxygen and magnesium make breathing a lot easier. With the highest content of minerals and salts in the world, the Dead Sea water possesses anti-inflammatory properties, and the dark mud found on the shores have been used for over 2000 years for therapeutic purposes. Enjoy free time this afternoon to float in the water and take a mud bath on the shore. Dinner tonight is at an Italian restaurant located beside the infinity pool at our luxury seaside hotel.

Petra by Night

Day 10 - Thursday, March 23, 2023
Dead Sea / Mt. Nebo / Madaba / Petra by Night
Enjoy a morning at leisure until it is time to meet your guide and driver for the transfer to Mount Nebo, where legend has it that Moses was able to see the Holy Land but not allowed to enter it. Nowadays the mountain is a memorial and pilgrimage site. We will enjoy a great view over Jordan, the Dead Sea and into Israel. When the weather is clear, you might even be able to see Jerusalem, 37 miles away. Afterward continue to Madaba, the "City of Mosaics” where we will see fascinating examples of this fine art at St. George’s Church and the Church of the Apostles.

After a lunch stop, we arrive in Petra late afternoon and check in at our hotel. After dinner at the hotel we meet our guide to join the walk to see “Petra By Night.” Experience the magical atmosphere of a candlelight visit to the rose-red city. The special aura of the ancient Nabatean trading empire comes to life as you enjoy a stroll through the mysterious Siq of Petra. At Al- Khazneh (The Treasury), listen to music and stories and experience Petra just as the travel-weary traders of old must have known it. This excursion departs from the Petra Visitors Center at 8:30pm, returning at around 10:30pm. Overnight in Petra.

Gay Petra tour

Day 11 - Friday, March 24, 2023
Petra
This morning, we meet our guide and transfer to the Petra Visitors’ Center to begin our visit to this amazing archaeological site. Take an optional horse ride from the main gate of Petra to the entrance of the old city, and then continue on foot through the winding canyon to the dramatic entrance.

The ancient city of Petra was built between 800 BC to AD 100 by Nabatean Arabs. During this era Petra was a fortress, carved out of the jagged rocks in an area which was virtually inaccessible. The city covers an area of about 100 square kilometers (62 miles), where over 800 monuments can be found. When shipping slowly displaced caravan routes, the city's importance gradually dwindled and fell into decline. Nowadays Petra has become a popular tourist attraction, since being featured prominently in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1984).

During our tour we stop for lunch at the Basin Restaurant inside the Petra site. Enjoy free time to explore on your own and take amazing photographs before returning to our hotel. After some free time at the hotel, we gather for dinner. Tonight’s venue is the Nabatean Cave Bar, located inside a Nabataean tomb in a hillside.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Hotel: Petra Marriott Hotel, Petra, 5*

Wadi Rum gay tour

Day 12 - Saturday, March 25, 2023
Wadi Rum / Return to Amman
After breakfast and hotel check-out, we meet our guide and driver for the trip to Wadi Rum, known as the Valley of the Moon. The largest and most magnificent of Jordan's desert landscapes, it has been virtually untouched by humans. A maze of monolithic rock formations rises from the desert floor to heights of 5,740 feet. It may be best known for its connection with British officer T. E. Lawrence, who passed through several times during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. The area was featured in the film Lawrence of Arabia (1962).

Explore the desert on a two-hour tour in 4x4 Bedouin vehicles. We end the tour at a Bedouin tented camp where lunch will be served. After lunch we drive to our hotel in Amman for check-in and an overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Hotel: Four Seasons Hotel Amman, Amman, 5*

Day 13 - Sunday, March 26, 2023
Farewell to Jordan
The tour extension ends officially after breakfast. We check out from our hotel, and board a vehicle for the transfer to Queen Alia International Airport and your flight home. Amman gay tour

Days 13 & 14 - Sunday, March 26 & Monday, March 27, 2023
Optional Amman City Tour Extension
After breakfast at our hotel, begin a tour of Amman City. The Citadel towers above the city from atop Jabal al-Qala'a, making it an excellent vantage point to appreciate the cityscape below. The Citadel is the site of ancient Rabbath-Ammon. Excavations here have revealed numerous Roman, Byzantine and early Islamic remains. The most impressive building of the Citadel, known simply as al-Qasr (the Palace), dates back to the Islamic Umayyad period. Its exact function is unclear, but it includes a monumental gateway, an audience hall and four vaulted chambers. A colonnaded street also runs through the complex. To the north and northeast are the ruins of Umayyad palace grounds.

Continue to the Roman Amphitheatre, the King Abdullah Mosque, downtown Amman and the famous “Rainbow Street” area. Return to your hotel for one final night, with a transfer to the airport in time to meet your departing flight tomorrow.

Trip Notes

Entry Requirements
All visitors to Egypt are required to have a visa. Citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Canada can get their visa upon arrival, valid for a period of up to three months. Nationals of other countries are required to obtain a visa from the Egyptian embassy in their home country before departing. The cost of the visa is $25, and is not included. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of arrival with one blank page for the entry stamp. The Government of Egypt has created a website for the issuance of “e-visas”. There are other websites purporting to offer electronic visas, some of which reportedly charge double the official price, but this is the only official Government of Egypt portal for this service. U.S. citizens and the citizens of 44 other countries are eligible to apply through this means in advance of their travel.
For those continuing to Jordan, we will obtain a visa upon entry. By providing our passport details in advance we can obtain a free collective entry visa for the entire group.

Exit Requirements
No airport tax is currently charged upon departure from Egypt, nor is one anticipated. However, any such taxes or fees instituted after publication of this itinerary will be the responsibility of the clients to pay directly to the appropriate airport authorities. Similarly, airport departure taxes are always included in the cost of your airline ticket departing from Jordan.

Immunizations and Health
No immunizations are compulsory, but inoculations for typhoid, polio, malaria, hepatitis and tetanus are advised. Please consult your personal physician about immunization planning. Click here to see the CDC website detailing health information for travelers to Egypt. Click here to read the recommendations for travelers to Jordan.

Making Travel Arrangements to Egypt (and Jordan)
Three domestic flights within Egypt are included on our main tour. The international flight from Cairo, Egypt to Amman, Jordan, is included in the price of our Jordan post-tour extension.
International airfare is NOT included. You need to get your round-trip international air ticket to, and returning from, Cairo, Egypt (CAI airport code). If you are adding on our post-tour extension to Jordan, you will need to fly into Cairo (CAI), and return home from Amman, Jordan (AMM).

What to Bring
Expect Cairo temperatures to be 54-73 degrees F. Luxor and Aswan will be 60-80 degrees F. Jordan can be cooler. Bring light-colored, lightweight cotton clothes that breathe well, as well as items for layering for added warmth. Dress is casual and conservative; your clothes should not insult local sensibilities. Loose garments are more comfortable and allow wind to circulate, creating a natural ventilation system. Pack light and try to carry only one suitcase in addition to your carry-on bag. Pack any medications you require in your carry-on bag just in case your luggage doesn’t arrive when you do. Leave expensive jewelry at home—it marks you as a wealthy tourist and an easy target. .

Money Matters
In Egypt the currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP), subdivided into 100 piastres (PT). Notes come in denominations of 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 LE, and 50 and 25 PT. Coins are 25, 20, 10, and 5 PT. All international hotels and most restaurants and shops accept the major credit cards. ATMs are widely available, and many banks provide cash advances on credit cards. Make sure your ATM card is linked to one of the worldwide networks (like Plus, Novus or Cirrus), and call your banks before departure to let them know you will be traveling abroad.
In Jordan the currency is the Jordanian dinar, divided into 10 dirhams, 100 qirsh (also called piastres) or 1000 fulus.

Tipping Guidelines
We will provide suggested tipping guidelines prior to departure, and will present a collective tip to drivers, guides and cruise staff at appropriate points throughout the tour.

Note:
The recent trend is for travelers to finalize their plans much closer to departure time than was customary in the past. While we try to be as flexible as possible we often must turn away last minute registrants because we relinquish hotel space and air reservations 8 – 12 weeks prior to departure! Please keep this in mind when making your travel plans.

A trip to Egypt is a high point in the life of every dedicated world traveler. With the opening of its new National Museum and many tour upgrades, there is no better time to go than now! If you have any questions, please email us.
